Race for Grace
The Race for Grace is a mission of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church. Each year, the governing body of the church works in conjunction with the race committee to choose projects that are making a difference in Memphis. Our goal is to spread the word about these organizations, and to help them raise funds. Additionally, we encourage our congregation to become involved in their activities.
The next 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run is November 5th, 2016 at 9 am and will benefit Shady Grove Elementary School.
The PRIZM Ensemble is a mixed chamber ensemble that includes a combination of woodwinds, strings, brass, and piano. We are proud to serve as a gateway into classical music, and all performances are fun, energetic, and engaging. Repertoire ranges from standard classic repertoire to accessible contemporary music. As an ensemble that is committed to chamber music education, a portion of all concerts includes performances by young musicians from all over the city.
Sister Supply provides pads, tampons and underwear for women who are homeless and/or living in poverty. Effective menstrual products are costly and are economically unavailable to a large number of women and teenage girls in Memphis. Without access to these essential items finding and maintaining employment and/or staying enrolled in school can be challenging. Imagine having to "do without."
Our Own Voice
Created in 1991, the Our Own Voice Theatre Troupe is a non-profit organization working to empower people marginalized by mental illness, and striving to engage our community in dialogue about mental health.
THREADS - a circle of clothes
Threads collects and distributes boy clothes sizes 0-6. We have coats and shoes too. Just come by any time to dig through our stash and take what you need. Questions? Email us.
The Tooth Fairy Project
This project was started by one of our kids here at Shady Grove. After learning about homelessness in Memphis, Henning Washington decided to raise $20,000 for the Hospitality Hub. The project asks that kids share their tooth fairy money and give $1 per tooth. Grownups can chip in too. The average adult has 32 teeth, and we would love it if parents, grandparents, and other adults gave $32 each. You can learn more about the project here.
Mustard Seed - a fair trade corner
This darling store is tucked in a corner right here at Shady Grove. Everything in it is fair trade and all profits go directly towards buying more fair trade items to sell. Our goal is to support artisans all over the world by buying and selling their goods at a fair price. Stop by and feel the good vibes.
Mustard Seed is open Thursdays & Saturdays 11-1 and Sundays 11:30-1:30.
Once a month, volunteers meet at St. Luke's United Methodist Church to provide meals for those in need. We meet at 3:00 PM for meal preparation and begin serving food at 4:30 PM. St. Luke's UMC is located at 480 S. Highland St. on the corner of Highland and Mynders. Please click here to contact Susan Baldwin if you are interested in joining us!
